Perez ‘spoiled’ galacticos

FLORENTINO PEREZ insists the pampering of David Beckham and his fellow Real Madrid ‘galacticos’ must cease if the club are to achieve their ambitions.

Perez stepped down as Real president on Monday after almost six years in the post, during which time he has helped the Spanish giants replace Manchester United as the world’s richest club, but they have not won a trophy since 2003.

“We have designed a squad which combines the world’s best players. Maybe I have spoiled them and that lies at the root of their confusion. I want them to understand the only thing that’s important is Real Madrid,” said Perez.

He added: “My mistake is similar to a parent who wants to give his kid only the best. You spoil them, so it’s not the players’ fault but mine.”
