EVERTON are making progress towards keeping boss David Moyes on a long-term basis after the former Preston manager revealed talks over a new deal are moving close to fruition.

Everton close to Moyes deal

With his existing deal due to expire at the end of the 2005-06 season, Moyes is keen to have his own future sorted before embarking on a winter spending spree which he hopes will add quality to Goodison Park.

Moyes saved the club from relegation in his first two months in the job. This season has seen Moyes achieve remarkable results. Despite selling star asset Wayne Rooney to Manchester United in the summer, the Toffees are currently third in the Premiership, after eight matches.
