Eriksson all-clear over sex scandal

ENGLAND coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was last night in the clear after bosses decided he had no case to answer over the sex scandal at the Football Association.

Secretary Faria Alam quit her FA job after the decision by a 12-member board of inquiry absolved the Swede over his affair with her. Revelations about her dalliances with Eriksson and chief executive Mark Palios rocked the highest reaches of the football establishment.

There have even been reports she had a sexual relationship with a third, unnamed FA executive. However, the 38-year-old has vowed to have her say and is set to make hundreds of thousands of pounds after selling her story to Sunday papers.

Her publicist Max Clifford said she was not happy about the way she had been treated and wanted to put the whole episode behind her. He added: “A lot of people have said a lot of things about her and it’s about time she stood up for herself, instead of a lot of rubbish being written about her which is totally untrue.”

FA bosses made no comment on Ms Alam in their statement last night, but accepted the resignation of communications chief Colin Gibson. He had been forced to fall on his sword after it emerged he tried to broker a deal to give a Sunday newspaper “chapter and verse” on Eriksson’s affair to try and keep Palios’s part in the affair secret.

Palios quit at the weekend but his temporary replacement David Davies and chairman Geoff Thompson, who had given Palios the all-clear when announcing the inquiry, survived unscathed.
