Leading 2-1 from the first leg in Cyprus, Costakis Malekos fired APOEL in front on the night from a 25-yard free kick on 36 minutes.

Despite APOEL defender Amanatides being sent off for a second booking on 73 minutes, Derry failed miserably to get back into the match and conceded two further goals inside the last 10 minutes.

Constantinos Charalaubidis made it 2-0 when racing through from midfield before George Papandreon added the third on 90 minutes.
