Moyes ready to break bank to land Davis

EVERTON boss David Moyes is prepared to blow almost all of his summer transfer budget on one deal to prise Sean Davis away from Fulham.

Moyes has only around £5million left to work with but has bid £4.5m for the 23-year-old. Everton were expected to offer only around £3m but Fulham have demanded at least twice that.

After talks between Moyes and owner Bill Kenwright, Everton have made Fulham an offer they will have to consider seriously.

That will leave Moyes only able to broker loan deals or Bosman free transfers.

But it is an avenue he has opted to go down so he will at least be able to land one major signing of Premiership quality to add to a squad that just failed to qualify for Europe last season.

The Everton board have been reluctant to release any more money this summer, particularly after already finding another £4m to turn Joseph Yobo’s loan move from Marseille into a permanent deal.

And the return of Alex Nyarko to the club after two loan spells at PSG and Monaco has meant the midfielder is now back on the Goodison wage bill.

Considering Everton are constantly being labelled as cash-strapped paupers, if they do land Davis they will have spent far more than the vast majority of Premiership clubs this summer.
