So convinced are the Irish bookmaking fraternity about Venables’ likely appointment, they have stopped taking bets on Brian Kerr’s successor.

The man who masterminded England’s run to the semi-finals of Euro ‘96 insists he has not been approached about the job, although he has also admitted he would be interested.
