McCarthy: who would want to join us?

MICK MCCARTHY admits Sunderland’s nightmare position at the foot of the Barclays Premiership has left him with an impossible task during the transfer window.

The Black Cats are 10 points adrift at the foot of the table after Monday’s 2-1 defeat by Fulham and desperately need to sign new players if they are to have any hope of avoiding an immediate return to the Championship.

But while McCarthy insists Sunderland remain a great club despite the team’s current difficulties, he understands why it will be so tough to lure new faces to the Stadium of Light this month.
