Diouf out, Garcia on way in

RAFAEL BENITEZ could continue the flurry of activity at Anfield before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

The Liverpool boss has off-loaded striker El-Hadji Diouf to Bolton on a season-long loan and faces a month without injured new signing Antonio Nunez.

It is believed midfielder Luis Garcia will be the third Spanish player to join Benitez’s side with Xabi Alonso the second although there was no confirmation of the signing yesterday. The midfielder played for the last 30 minutes in Spain’s 3-2 win over Venezuela on Wednesday night.

After fearing a fracture, a scan yesterday revealed Nunez had sustained medial ligament damage to his left knee.

It leaves Benitez short on numbers with Michael Owen and Danny Murphy already having left the club.

Djibril Cisse, Milan Baros and Florent Sinama Pongolle are the only remaining strikers competing for a place in the Liverpool starting line-up.
