McLeish unhappy with new FIFA law
The new regulations were approved by the world football governing body last month and could even result in clubs being relegated if their fans are deemed to be repeat offenders.
FIFA want associations to incorporate the new penalties into their regulations and the Scottish Football Association will discuss the directive at their AGM next month.
Rangers this week escaped punishment when their fans were cleared of chanting sectarian songs during their Champions League matches against Villarreal.
UEFA‘s explanation for the verdict was that they could do nothing to stop bigotry because it had been tolerated in Scottish society for too long.
McLeish is keen to see such songs stamped out at Ibrox but is unconvinced FIFA‘s new regulations are the way forward. “I know there are banners in Italy, for instance, that are not politically correct so it does open a massive can of worms. There are other countries with problems - where does it start and where does it end?
