Capello wary of Rapid threat

JUVENTUS have made an excellent start to the Serie A season but coach Fabio Capello insists he is not taking Rapid Vienna lightly ahead of tonight’s Champions League Group A tie.

Many pundits are saying Juve and Bayern Munich are certainties to progress into the knockout phase at the expense of Rapid and Club Brugge but Capello begs to differ.

He said: "Rapid are a team who play with humility and are very good on the counter-attack because they have two fast and skilful forwards. They are also dangerous with the dead ball and take good free-kicks and corners."

Juve will not be able to count on the services of Patrick Vieira, who is suspended after being sent off against Brugge.

Rapid, currently lying third in the Austrian Bundesliga, performed well in their opening Champions League match against Bayern Munich before succumbing in Vienna. Victory in Turin would be a historic feat for the Austrians who have never won a Champions League fixture.

Bayern will look to make it two wins from two and bounce back from domestic defeat at the weekend to Hamburg when they face Club Brugge. Munich keeper Oliver Kahn insists Saturday's loss could prove a blessing in disguise ahead of the clash.

Bayern had won their first six games in the Bundesliga this season making it a record 15 in total including the run which guided them to the 2005 title before crashing to a 1-0 loss on Saturday.

Kahn said: "In a way, we're happy the series is over. It was important for us to take a blow and now we can work without the uncomfortable pressure."

Bayern coach Felix Magath is expected to return to a 4-4-2 formation with Paolo Guerrero, joining Roy Makaay up front.

Brugge arrive in Bavaria in need of a victory in Munich having lost their opening game 2-1 against Juve.

Barcelona's star duo Ronaldinho and Deco will both return to action to face Udinese in Group F after being rested at the weekend.

The Catalan side got their European campaign off to a winning start by beating Werder Bremen but have not been at full throttle so far this season and coach Frank Rijkaard will not want a slip-up against Udinese, who also won their first match in Europe against Panathinaikos.

Rijkaard is set to continue with his rotation policy especially as Mark van Bommel, making his first start, scored at the weekend and bit-part player Santi Ezquerro also netted in Seville.

Xavi Hernandez is likely to be the man to give way this time with Andres Iniesta taking his place.

Barca face an Udinese side in trouble in the Italian league having lost their last three matches and they will also be without Vincenzo Iaquinta who scored a hat-trick against Panathinaikos, as he is involved in a contract dispute with the club.

In the other Group C match, Panathinaikos take on Werder Bremen, who will have Miroslav Klose and Ivan Klasnic leading the line.

FC Thun will look to build on their impressive performance at Arsenal two weeks ago when they play host to Sparta Prague on Tuesday.

Thun have switched the clash from their own Lachen Stadium to the larger Stade de Suisse in Berne to accommodate more fans on their home Champions League debut.

There is a ground change also in France tonight where Lille will take on Villarreal at Stade de France as their own ground does not comply with UEFA standards.
