Hip hip hurrah for Given

SHAY GIVEN was the primary cause for concern for manager Brian Kerr after the Republic of Ireland’s first training session in Malahide yesterday.

A hip injury sustained in Newcastle United's draw with Portsmouth on Saturday required a half-time pain-killing injection to allow the goalkeeper to finish the game.

Given took no part in yesterday's training but believes he will be fit to play on Saturday.
