Soccer: Fangzhou says thank you to Fergie’s £1m transfer offer
Ferguson boss has targeted the 18-year-old Dalian Shide striker to bolster the set-up at Old Trafford where youth is high on Fergie's priorities.
Shide only want their prized asset to go out on loan and are said to be resisting a permanent deal despite the fact the Chinese club say United have offered over a million pounds.
"We are still negotiating but we are not far away," Ferguson admitted. "The big thing is that he is keen to come to us but there are various difficulties when you are dealing with young players and clubs so far away.
"We brought him over for a month and we like the look of him. He's aggressive and quick."
Ferguson received a further boost ahead of today's noon clash with Blackburn Rovers with the news that Paul Scholes is on course for a return to first team action in time for next month's clash with Aston Villa.
"Paul has done his rehabilitation work and is doing some training," Ferguson said.
"He's coming along great. The good thing about Paul is that he is a quick healer so it won't be too long now before he is back for us. I expect him to be ready again in a fortnight."
Uruguayan Diego Forlan is expected to be involved today, even though he did not return from South America until last night.
Gary Neville is United's main doubt after aggravating an Achilles tendon injury before last Sunday's England friendly against Denmark.
His younger brother Phil is on stand-by to switch to right-back should Gary miss the early kick-off.
Eric Djemba-Djemba, Nicky Butt and Brazilian World Cup winner Kleberson are in contention for Phil's place in midfield, while Ferguson plans to check on the fitness of all the players who were on international duty before finalising his plans.
Blackburn have selection worries of their own former United striker Andy Cole and Australian right-back Lucas Neill are both suspended for the visit to Old Trafford. David Thompson is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury and striker Corrado Grabbi has returned to Italy for treatment on a foot injury.
After landing a top-six berth last term, Ferguson admitted he is surprised at Blackburn's struggles this season. "Graeme has built a great football side at Ewood Park and everyone has been surprised by their results this season," he said.
"They have lost two experienced defenders in Craig Short and Lorenzo Amoruso, Lucas Neill and Andy Cole are suspended and David Thompson has been forced to have an operation.
"Those setbacks are bound to unbalance you but their victory against Everton was very important.
"It helped stabilise the situation, moved them up a few places and means they will come to Old Trafford with that bit more confidence."
