ROY KEANE grabbed a late winner as Manchester United emerged 2-1 victors from a tough pre-season workout in Oslo last night.

Roy the ace as United win it late in Oslo

United were always the better side in front of a capacity crowd at the Ulevaal Stadium but had things far from their own way after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's penalty opener.

Valerenga gave their visitors plenty to think about in the second half and grabbed a brilliant equaliser through Pa-Modou Kah before Keane finished matters with six minutes to go.

United had led at half time courtesy of Solskjaer's spot-kick in the 28th minute.

Meanwhile United will enter the new season without a number nine following the announcement of their squad list yesterday. The shirt vacated by Andy Cole following his move to Blackburn last season remains empty, although that could be rectified if manager Sir Alex Ferguson makes the move for Paolo di Canio which West Ham believe will come by the end of the week.

Although United insist they have no plans to launch an official bid, speculation persists that Ferguson will land the Italian at the second attempt before the Champions League deadline at the end of August.

Even if di Canio does not sign, United's shirts will look slightly different this term.

With their new Nike kit due to go on sale tomorrow, United have confirmed that Ferdinand, expected to be one of the most popular names to adorn the back of the replica shirts, will wear number six on his back.

Laurent Blanc, who wore the number six shirt last season, switches to his favoured number five, with Phil Neville given number three following the departure of Denis Irwin.

Meanwhile The BBC have snapped up live coverage of Manchester United's home Champions League qualifier next month.

The game, against the winners of the second qualifying round tie between Zalaegerszegi and NK Zagreb, will be played on August 27.

United visit either Hungary or Croatia for the opening leg on August 14.
