Gill backs Giggs to stay at United
Gill is refusing to break club policy by offering Giggs the two-year contract he has asked for, insisting he will only give the winger a one-season extension to his current deal.
The impasse has raised suggestions that Giggs will terminate his 13-year association with United before the start of next season.
And, though Gill confirmed there will have to be player sales if Alex Ferguson wants to bring in new faces during either of the next two transfer windows, he does not believe Giggs will be among the potential departures.
“I am very confident Ryan will stay with Manchester United for the remainder of his career,” said Gill.
“We know Ryan wants two years and we have only offered him one, which is what we feel is appropriate for a player in their 30s and it is what we have done in the past. But I am sure both parties can sort something out because Ryan doesn’t want to leave and we don’t want him to leave,” he said.
