Houghton goal a giant favourite

RAY HOUGHTON’S goal against Italy in Giant’s Stadium in the 1994 World Cup is one the best memories for Irish soccer fans, according to a poll undertaken by Carlsberg.

The website www.carlsbergmoments.ie was launched last month and thousands of fans have logged on to register their favourite moment since the qualifiers for Italia ‘90.

Dave O’Leary’s penalty against Romania, Packie Bonner’s earlier penalty save from Timofte, and Robbie Keane’s late equaliser against Germany in Japan 2002 have all polled strongly as some of the best moments from the last 15 years, but none have come close yet to matching Houghton’s winning goal against the Italians.
