Mourinho ‘not happy yet’
Mourinho revealed that he had exceeded even expectations within the club at lifting the Premiership title and the Carling Cup in his first year in charge.
But he is determined to ensure Chelsea use this campaign as a springboard for more success, with the Community Shield now an extra target along with the Premier League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and Champions League.
"We have to battle to keep the two titles that we've got and fight to get the other three," he declared. "Of course, we won't win all five but we have to fight for all five and see what happens.
"Before we lost at Anfield, I said that the best team always win the championship, but in the Champions League, sometimes the best team doesn't win."
Chelsea's Champions League semi-final defeat at Liverpool was the one sour note of the entire season, with Mourinho insisting that the best two sides in Europe will not be contesting the final in Istanbul.
"We played against them five teams this season and I have a lot of respect for them. We had zero problems in between managers and players. It was fantastic, with fair play all over the season.
"But a team that is 36 points behind Chelsea is not better. In the two matches, we showed that we are better than them. But they are there and I wish them well."
Arsene Wenger has already tried to pile the pressure on Mourinho, observing that it would be seen as "disastrous" for Chelsea if they failed to retain the title next season.
That is something which only Manchester United have done since the Premiership began in 1992, with Arsenal having failed on three separate occasions.
However, Mourinho insisted: "Maybe next season Chelsea will do a magnificent season but someone else does better, so I can't think that way. I think it's very difficult to be champions in England but of course we want to win again next season.
"I can't say that Manchester United and Arsenal failed this season. I think that Chelsea succeeded. There is a difference."
Mourinho has won three consecutive league titles twice with Porto and Chelsea's first since 1955 but he insists that he is "not happy yet" as he craves more success.
"I will enjoy it with my players and staff, but then I want to win again," he said in the aftermath of joyous celebrations at Stamford Bridge following the narrow 1-0 win against Charlton.
"I always said that we would win the title. Maybe next season I'll say the same again and we won't win. But I have my principles, I am like this and I won't change. I now know that a lot of people didn't believe we could do it in our first season, but we did it," said Mourinho.
"I'm happy with that, but my nature is not to be happy with what we have done. We want more. I've got my hands on the trophy but now I want to win it again. This is the start of a process not the end. I want more for me and Chelsea."
Mourinho said he thought the turning point in the title race was on January 15, when Chelsea won at Tottenham and Arsenal lost at Bolton.
"After that, we never left that position and you increasingly feel you are strong, tactically and mentally. But for me, the moment when we celebrated for the first time, not the title but that it would be very difficult to take it from us, was after we beat Tottenham.
"We were in the bus on the way back and Arsenal lost at Bolton. Our lead went from five points to eight. It was the first time that we had celebrated. Now I am happy, tired, I would like to go on holiday, I am proud."
Mourinho believes that his players will be similarly determined next season. In fact, he will make sure of it.
Alex Ferguson may look into his players' eyes when they pick up medals to check on their hunger. However, Mourinho will wait until "the first training session of the next pre-season."
His players have been warned.
