Butt says sorry for walkout

NICKY BUTT has issued a public apology for walking out on Birmingham before their Premiership defeat at West Ham.

Butt left the team hotel and returned to Birmingham after being told by manager Steve Bruce he was not in the squad.

The former Manchester United midfielder said in a statement: “Having been informed I was not to be a part of the West Ham game, I made a decision I regret.

“I would like to apologise unreservedly to the manager, coaching staff, team-mates and fans for my actions.”

Butt was dropped for the game, which Birmingham lost 3-0, as Bruce fielded a side with his own son Alex, normally a defender, playing in midfield.
