Smith to cut Scots’ friendlies

NEW Scotland manager Walter Smith will take steps to limit the number of friendly matches his team plays in the future.

Smith was unveiled as the new national coach at Hampden Park yesterday after accepting a contract which takes him up to the 2008 European Championships.

His predecessor Berti Vogts was accused of devaluing the honour of playing for Scotland by capping too many players in meaningless friendlies.
