Le Saux calls time on illustrious career

The 36-year-old was part of the Southampton side relegated from the Premiership earlier this month but has now decided to hang up his boots.

Le Saux, who won 36 caps for England, said: “I decided at the beginning of the season that this would probably be my last. I would much rather have retired seeing Southampton stay in the Premiership, but it was just not meant to be. Having constant and intensive treatment ahead of every game, my body knows how hard I’ve tried this season.”

He is keen now to focus on his commentary work with the BBC.

Le Saux left his home in Jersey at 19 to sign for Chelsea before moving to Blackburn Rovers six years later, where he won a Premiership medal in 1995.
