Swede dreams for Byrne

SHELBOURNE striker Jason Byrne will this week sign for Swedish side Djurgardens in an Irish record €500,000 deal, despite a number of last-minute hitches in the Dubliner’s move to a team who have already qualified for next season’s Champions League.

“These talks have gone on for three weeks and frankly, I want them to come to an end soon. We would never stand in Jayo’s way to move to a higher level, even though I would love him at Tolka Park next season,” said Shels boss Pat Fenlon.

The 26-year-old Byrne, a cousin of Tottenham and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane, is reported to be eager to savour Scandinavian football with a side who won the Swedish FA Cup and Premiership double in this season.
