Ferdinand faces driving ban after overtaking police car at 100mph

The defender was clocked doing 106mph by officers in a patrol car on the M6 northbound near Stafford on January 9, the court heard.

The 26-year-old passed the police car in his Chrysler C3000 at about 9.45am and was charged with speeding. He did not attend Staffordshire Magistrates Court yesterday, but entered a guilty plea through his solicitor.

The case was adjourned to May 25 when Ferdinand, from Alderley Edge, Cheshire, will appear before a disqualification court.

Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson was yesterday charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

The governing body claim the Manchester United manager is in breach of FA rule E3 and he has until May 26 to respond.

The charge relates to Ferguson’s comments following the match against Newcastle on April 24. He said after the 2-1 victory: “We should have had a clear penalty today - it seems to me now that we are not going to get penalties no matter what the circumstances. It’s getting ridiculous now. I’m not sure if they’re instructed but it’s sinister to me.”
