Thornton seeks move away from Black Cats

SUNDERLAND’S Irish star Sean Thornton has asked for a transfer.

The 21-year-old has reluctantly accepted that his future lies away from The Stadium of Light.

Thornton has featured just five times in the league this season and all those coming from the substitutes bench.

The Under-21 international, who has been linked with a move to The Premiership with Everton known to be amongst his admirers, is now eager kick start his career elsewhere.

“We can confirm that Sean has asked for a transfer and we will be confirming that in writing,” his agent Lee Payne confirmed.

“Sean loves everything about Sunderland, and especially the fans.

“But he has now reached a point where he must think about his career and his future.
