World Cup ambitions fuelled Wright-Phillips transfer

SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS has revealed that his determination to win a place in England’s World Cup team fuelled his decision to join Chelsea from Manchester City.

The 23-year-old winger completed a €30m switch to the Premiership champions, joining on a five-year deal after passing a medical.

The England international faces stiff competition from Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and Joe Cole for a place in the Blues line-up but had no qualms about joining Jose Mourinho's ranks.
