MATTHEW UPSON has completed a £3 million move to Birmingham City — after Arsene Wenger failed to convince him he had a future at Arsenal.

Upson yesterday became Blues' manager Steve Bruce's sixth signing since the transfer window reopened when he put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Upson was hailed as the new Tony Adams when he became Wenger's first English signing from Luton Town in April 1997. But injuries and lack of opportunities means he has made only 20 Premiership starts for the Gunners.
