Jacob Stockdale has been ruled out of Ireland's Test match against Portugal this weekend due to an injury which the Ulster winger suffered during Saturday's victory over Georgia.

Stockdale was replaced by Munster's Calvin Nash after 36 minutes against Georgia having fallen awkwardly on his shoulder. He has returned to Ireland and will see a specialist next week with a damaged AC joint being the suspected issue.

Ireland's interim head coach Paul O'Connell had been impressed by Stockdale's contribution prior to his injury. The game continued a run of bad luck for Stockdale in an Ireland jersey, being the third successive Test match in which he sustained an injury. Nash, and Connacht winger Shayne Bolton, are two of O'Connell's options to replace Stockdale this weekend.

Ulster tighthead prop Scott Wilson had been called up as cover for the game against Georgia but he has now returned to Ireland with his services not required for the clash with Portugal.

Connacht back row Cian Prendergast has recovered from illness and will be available for selection. Bar Stockdale, there are no further injury concerns for O'Connell before Saturday's Test at the Estadio Nacional do Jamor in Lisbon which kicks off at 7pm.
