NEW CONTRACTS: Fionn Gibbons, John Ryan and Fineen Wycherley pen new contracts with Munster.

Munster and the IRFU confirm that Fineen Wycherley has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the province until at least 2027.

The West Cork lock, whose brother Josh penned a two-year contract extenion earlier this month, has scored eight tries in 121 Munster appearance since his debut in 2017.

The Bantry Bay RFC man won a Leinster Schools Senior Cup with Cistercian College Roscrea in 2015 before joining the Munster Academy in 2017.

The 27-year-old won a British and Irish Cup with Munster A in 2017 and lined out for the Ireland U20s in the Six Nations and World Rugby Championship.

Wycherley won the Academy Player of the Year in 2018 and established himself as a key member of the squad in 2018/19 making 16 appearances.

He became a key member of the squad in the following three campaigns making 21 appearances on average per season and earned a senior Ireland cap against USA in July 2021.

Wycherley missed a large part of the 2022/23 season due to a shoulder injury and returned at the end of January 2023 and featured prominently when Munster won the URC title.

He won his 100th cap for Munster against Ulster in November 2023 and has played in 15 of Munster's 16 games this year. He was called up to the Ireland A squad for their game against England A in Bristol at the weekend.

Earlier, John Ryan has penned a one-year contract extension to keep him at the province until 2026.

The tighthead prop has made 238 appearances to date for the province scoring six tries and is fifth on the all-time list of record appearances for the province.

The Cork native has 24 caps for Ireland and has made 15 appearances so far this campaign for Munster.

The former Muskerry RFC and CBC prop made his Munster debut in 2011 and earned his first cap for Ireland in 2016 before winning the Grand Slam in 2018.

He played in the 2019 Rugby World Cup and in 2020 made his 150th Munster appearance against Ulster.

In the 2022/23 season the 35-year-old lined out for Wasps in England, earned a URC winners medal with Munster and reached the Super Rugby Pacific final with the Chiefs in New Zealand.

That campaign Ryan earned his 200th appearance for Munster in December 2022 and became the 13th Munster player to reach the landmark.

Ryan returned to the province permanently in 2023 and has made 33 appearances to date.

Elsewhere, Fionn Gibbons has signed a one-year senior contract with the province.

Gibbons is currently with the Academy and will move up to the senior squad this summer.

The 22-year-old won a Grand Slam with the Ireland U20s in 2022 scoring three tries in four appearances. Gibbons plays AIL rugby with Young Munster and has made two senior appearances to date.

Gibbons becomes the fifth Academy player to move into the senior ranks for the 2025/26 season with winger Shay McCarthy, lock Evan O’Connell, back-row forward Ruadhán Quinn and prop Kieran Ryan already penning senior contracts.

Gibbons returns to training with the team following a long-term knee injury sustained last season. He can play centre and on the wing and joined the Academy in 2022 after he came through the ranks at Castleknock College. He made his Munster debut against Connacht in October 2022 and featured against Sharks last season.
