Confirmed: Ulster out-half Billy Burns seals Munster move

HEADIN' SOUTH: Ulster's Billy Burns.
Munster have confirmed the signing of Ulster and Ireland international Billy Burns on a one-year contract.
The out-half, heavily touted with a move south since the news of Joey Carbery's upcoming move to France, will provide back-up for current Munster and Ireland first-choice 10, Jack Crowley, from the start of next season.
The departure of Carbery - reportedly on his way to Bordeaux Begles - coupled with the previous loss of Ben Healy's services to Edinburgh meant reinforcement was needed, with Burns identified as the individual to fill the void between Crowley and younger talents such as Tony Butler.
The 29-year-old has made 107 Ulster appearances since joining from Gloucester in 2018, making his Ireland debut against Wales in 2020.
Meanwhile, tighthead prop John Ryan has signed a one-year contract extension. Ryan - a 24-cap Ireland international - has made 13 appearances so far this campaign.
A hectic 2022/23 season saw the 35-year-old line out for Wasps in England, earn a URC winners medal with Munster and reach a Super Rugby Pacific final with the Chiefs in New Zealand.
Elsewhere, West Cork's Cian Hurley has also signed a one-year contract extension having graduated from the academy to the senior squad last summer.
