Munster have been dealt a potentially serious double injury blow with the news that both prop Oli Jager and lock Fineen Wycherley are set to see knee specialists this week.

Jager made his Test debut for Ireland as a replacement in the 31-7 win over Wales on February 24 before sustaining a knee issue.

The forward duo will now weigh up the possibility of going under the knife, with Munster stating: "Oli Jager and Fineen Wycherley (both knee) are due to see specialists this week for possible surgery."

In better news for head coach Graham Rowntree, John Hodnett (finger), Jack O’Donoghue (knee) and Simon Zebo (knee) all return to training this week ahead of their trip to Swansea to take on the Ospreys this Friday night.

Zebo recently mentioned the possibility of this being his final season with Munster, with retirement on his mind following a number of niggling injuries.

He told the Irish Examiner: “When the season started, in my head, going on from last year, I was thinking this would probably be my last this and that.

"But now, after I’ve gone back and played so well in the Champions Cup and in the Irish derbies, the body was feeling good and I thought I’d keep going.

“I’m humming and hawing. I want to see how I get back when I’m fit and available. If it’s my last season it’s my last season. I would like to finish healthy and finish playing well, as I was beforehand, as opposed to not feeling good.

“I don’t want to be that 35-year-old full-back scraping performances. No, I’d rather finish feeling fit and healthy. Most likely this will be my last season, but I’ll confirm that shortly.”

Meanwhile, Alex Nankivell is following the return to play protocols following a head injury in training last week, while Craig Casey and Jeremy Loughman have returned to the squad after Ireland’s Six Nations triumph at the weekend.

The following are listed as continuing to rehab: Dave Kilcoyne (shoulder), Diarmuid Barron (foot), Roman Salanoa (knee), Jean Kleyn (knee/eye), Paddy Patterson (knee), Liam Coombes (shoulder), Patrick Campbell (shoulder).
