World Cup injury list grows; Tommy Bowe facing long spell on the sidelines

Tommy Bowe may not play again this season as the injury list from Ireland’s unsuccessful World Cup campaign continues to grow.

The Ulster winger has been pictured on crutches because of ligament damage sustained during the loss to Argentina and may face more than six months out of action.

The Belfast Telegraph reports today that Bowe is unlikely to be fit to help defend Ireland’s Six Nations title next spring and may not play any part in Ulster’s season.

Bowe joins Jared Payne, Paul O’Connell and Peter O’Mahony on the list of Irish players facing long recoveries from injuries picked up at the World Cup.

The IRFU and Ulster have yet to confirm the extent of Bowe’s injury, but may do so tonight after Ulster play Cardiff in the PRO12. The 31-year-old has been unlucky in recent seasons, with knee, groin and hand injuries keeping him out of the game for long periods.
