Scrum-half headache for Penney ahead of Edinburgh clash
Injury to 23-year-old scrum-half Cathal Sheridan could leave Munster head coach Rob Penney with a selection dilemma for Saturday night’s RaboDirect PRO12 meeting with Edinburgh at Musgrave Park (7.45pm).
With Conor Murray on Six Nations duty with Ireland and Peter Stringer on loan at Premiership club Bath, number 9s are in short supply in the southern province.
Sheridan picked up a shoulder injury in his club UL Bohemains 31-13 defeat to Shannon at the weekend but a decision has not yet been made on his availability for the weekend.
Under the terms of their loan agreement with Bath, Munster can call upon Stringer if they find themselves in an injury crisis.
Winger Luke O’Dea (hamstring) and hooker Sean Henry (hand) provide further injury concerns ahead of Edinburgh’s visit but a decision on their involvement will not be made until later in the week.
Penney’s men will be looking to atone for their woeful display against Cardiff Blues in their last Musgrave Park outing which saw them lose 6-17.
Similarly the Scottish outfit will be hoping to recover from the 16-31 mauling they suffered at the hands of Leinster in their last PRO12 encounter.
