Munster assessing injured ahead of Scarlets visit

The Munster medical team will be keeping an eye on the progress of back rowers Tommy O’Donnell, James Coughlan and Niall Ronan ahead of Sunday’s RaboDirect PRO 12 meeting with the Scarlets in Musgrave Park.

Rob Penney and his staff are hopeful the ankle injury sustained by O'Donnell in last Thursday's A Interprovincial win over Leinster is not too serious.

At this stage, the flanker has not been ruled out of consideration for the Scarlets game but it will be later in the week before a final decision on his fitness can be made.

Coughlan has been on the injury list since September’s interprovincial showdown against Ulster but he and Niall Ronan could make a return to action in the next week or two which is good news for Penney given that Sean Dougal (knee) and Barry O'Mahony (groin) will be absent for the immediate future.

Hooker Sean Henry (thigh muscle) also ended Thursday’s A game early and is another whose availability will be decided later in the week.
