Pair set for hearings

Connacht flanker Mike McCarthy and London Irish centre Steve Shingler will face European Club Rugby disciplinary hearings on Wednesday after incidents in this weekend’s Heineken Cup games.

Shingler was sent off in the first half of his side’s 24-18 defeat to Cardiff Blues on Friday for a dangerous tackle on opposite number Dafydd Hewitt.

McCarthy, meanwhile, was reported by ERC citing commissioner Bruce Reece-Russell after an alleged high tackle on Toulouse winger Vincent Clerc during Saturday’s 36-10 loss.

Both hearings will take place at the ERC offices in Dublin under the jurisdiction of independent judicial officer Roger Morris.
