All Blacks without Read for first World Cup clash
New Zealand expect number eight Kieran Read to miss most of the round-robin stage at the World Cup after tests showed he has torn a ligament in his left ankle.
All Blacks loose forward Adam Thomson, who has an injured elbow, is also set to be ruled out of the hosts' tournament-opening clash with Tonga on September 9, team doctor Deb Robinson said.
