McFadden: Discipline let us down

Ireland and Leinster wing Fergus McFadden has said that Ireland’s discipline let them down in their defeat to France in the Six Nations yesterday.

He did admit that the team felt down after their defeat in the Aviva yesterday, because they felt they had the ability to win the game.

McFadden said: “The whole team is gutted that we lost. We lost it rather than they won it, I thought the French were good, but we scored more tries.

“Unfortunately our discipline let us down.”

McFadden – who scored Ireland’s first try in only his second start for the boys in green - refused to focus on the last attack of the game where Ireland could have scored a try, rather he said that Ireland should not have been in that position in the first place.

“We should have been in a better position at that stage of the game, our discipline was a bit of a weak point.

“The French put a lot of pressure on you at the ruck and we got pinged a few too many times.”

Ireland scored three tries in the game to France’s single crossover, a sign that Ireland did well in their defensive performance, according to McFadden.

Mc Fadden said: “We marshalled them well bar that one line break they got where they did score. I thought they never really threatened us a whole lot.”
