Phillips extends Ospreys stay

Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has committed his future to the Ospreys by signing a new four-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.

The 27-year-old had attracted interest from a number of Guinness Premiership and French Top 14 clubs but has opted to remain in Wales until at least 2014.

Phillips has 38 Wales caps to his name and was one of the stars of the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa last summer.

He has been troubled by injury during the last two seasons, and missed four months of the current campaign with a foot injury.

However, he recently returned to be named on the bench for Wales’ RBS 6 Nations defeat against France and is in contention to figure in Saturday’s clash with Ireland at Croke Park in Dublin after starting in the Ospreys Magners League defeat against Edinburgh on Sunday.

The former Scarlets and Cardiff Blues half-back said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time as an Osprey over the last three seasons and I’m pleased that I’ve been able to agree a new contract.

“With my future sorted, it means I can just concentrate now on getting myself up to speed for some of the big games that we’ve got coming up.”
