Munster sign Kiwi scrum half

Otago and Chiefs scrum-half Toby Morland has signed a six-month contract with Munster.

Otago and Chiefs scrum-half Toby Morland has signed a six-month contract with Munster.

The 26-year-old will join the Irish side on July 1 and will not be available for next year’s Super 14.

Morland will join fellow New Zealanders Doug Howlett and Lifeimi Mafi at the former Heineken Cup champions.

“I wanted a short-term contract for a start,” Morland told the Otago Daily Times. “I will then carry on or look elsewhere. I’m keen to get experience overseas and live a different lifestyle.”

Morland has played 47 games for Otago between 2002 and 2008 but was not wanted by the Highlanders this year and was picked up by the Chiefs in the draft.

Injury to Brendon Leonard saw him start in the semi-final win against the Hurricanes and the Super 14 final against the Bulls.
