Welsh captain injured before Scotland game
Wales suffered a huge blow for today’s RBS 6 Nations opener against Scotland after captain Ryan Jones was ruled out through injury.
The Ospreys forward picked up a calf problem and was replaced at blindside flanker by Dafydd Jones, with Martyn Williams skippering the side and Bradley Davies coming on to the bench at Murrayfield.
The Grand Slam champions were already without star centre Gavin Henson, who was ruled out on Friday after failing to shake off a calf injury of his own.
Injuries had also hit Scotland, who still took a massive gamble by naming an experimental XV for the game.
Flanker Jason White started at lock for the first time in more than six years, Allister Hogg started at blindside for the first time in five, while record points-scorer Chris Paterson started on the bench.
