Munster face tense wait on stars’ injuries

Munster will have an anxious wait on the fitness of hooker Jerry Flannery ahead of their Heineken Cup assignment in France in a fortnight’s time.

Flannery injured his right knee after just 13 minutes of Ireland’s win over Argentina on Saturday afternoon and the extent of his injury will not be known until this afternoon at the earliest.

There was better news regarding the injury to David Wallace, who took a heavy blow to the base of the skull during Saturday’s game.

Wallace was taken to hospital where he had scan and it was revealed that he had suffered soft tissue damage and was released immediately to join up with the Irish squad for their post match get-together.

The flanker, who along with Donncha O’Callaghan won his 50th cap on Saturday, is likely to be rested for next Friday’s Magners League clash away to the Scarlets.

But he should be fully recovered in time for the trip to Clermont the following weekend.

Munster are also waiting on injury reports on Rua Tipoki, who was forced off during Munster’s epic battle with the All Blacks last Tuesday night.

Tipoki injured his knee in a collision with a New Zealand player during last week’s match.

It remains unclear just how serious the injury is and whether or not it will rule him out of the trip to Clermont.
