Toulouse scrum-half passed fit for Heineken Cup final

Toulouse scrum-half Byron Kelleher will be fit for Saturday’s Heineken Cup final against Munster despite missing his club’s Top 14 win over Montauban at the weekend.

The New Zealand international has been nursing a minor thigh injury and was left out of Toulouse’s squad for their 28-6 league victory on Saturday as a precaution.

But he will return to training this week and should take his place in the French side’s starting XV for the final against Munster.

That will leave France backs Clement Poitrenaud and Vincent Clerc as Toulouse’s chief injury absentees for the weekend.

The win over Montauban keeps Toulouse in touch with leaders Clermont-Auvergne at the Top 14 summit but scrum-half Jean-Baptiste Elissalde admits the club’s focus for the past few weeks has been on Munster.

“Unconsciously, we have been thinking about the Heineken Cup finals for three weeks,” he said.

“We have perhaps let things go a bit in the championship lately, but our aim of qualifying for the semi-finals has been met.”

The Toulouse squad will travel to Cardiff on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s final at the Millennium Stadium.
