Scotland captain facing knee scan

Scotland captain Jason White is set for a scan tomorrow to assess the extent of the injury to his right knee.

Scotland captain Jason White is set for a scan tomorrow to assess the extent of the injury to his right knee.

The Sale Sharks flanker was carried off during the 48-6 win over Romania at Murrayfield in the opening Autumn Test match.

But the 28-year-old admits he does not know whether he will be fit for the forthcoming games against the Pacific Islanders and Australia.

White said: "People kept asking me in the dressing room whether I will be fit for the Pacific Islanders on Saturday, but I honestly do not have a clue.

"I have have never had much bother with that knee other than a couple of minor strains, so I am not in a position to judge the severity of this one. All I know is that it is sore.

"That said, the knee is not too swollen at the moment, so I will be crossing all my fingers and toes that the scan I am due to have tomorrow does not show anything serious."

But White concedes the nature of the injury merely compounded his irritation.

He told the Sunday Times: "There was a scrum quite near our line and, as it broke up, Mike Blair set his sights on their number eight Ovidiu Tonita.

"I was then left with Valentin Calafetenau, the scrum-half.

"I thought he was going to break on the outside, but he ended up stepping back on to the inside, so I had to pivot.

"And the only thing I can think happened is that my studs got caught.

"I felt my right knee 'yelp' and knew straight away I had to get myself off."
