Students fail to stave off relegation

Cork Constitution 33 Dublin University 21

Hooker and captain Matt Crockett typified the Dublin University effort but the students could not stave off relegation at Temple Hill.

Crockett touched down on 11 and 38 minutes, replying to Con tries from centres Conor Quaid and Tom Gleeson, but out-half Daragh Lyons’ injury-time score saw Con go in at the break with a 21-14 lead.

Con, whose third-place finish earns them a semi-final trip to Clontarf, opened the second half with a try from lock Shane Cottrell. Lock Marc Warburton replied for Trinity but flanker Ed Leamy – a brother of Denis – rounded out the home win in injury-time.

Scorers: Cork Con: Tries: Conor Quaid, Tom Gleeson, Daragh Lyons, Shane Cottrell, Ed Leamy; Cons: Richard Lane 4 Dublin Uni: Tries: Matt Crockett 2, Marc Warburton; Cons: Johnny Watt 3
