Two tries from winger Bryan Habana inspired 14-man South Africa to victory over Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

Habana, one of five nominees for the International Rugby Board’s player of the year, scored a try in each half.

Conrad Jantjes opened a 23-9 lead for South Africa and replacement Danie Roussouw applied the finishing touch with the Springboks’ fourth try in the last minute.

Mike Ruddock’s side put up a spirited display but could not compete with South Africa’s finishing power.

Stephen Jones finished with nine points on his 50th Wales appearance and Ceri Sweeney ran in a late consolation try.

South African full-back Percy Montgomery, who missed four of his seven shots at goal, was sent off for a second yellow card after a high tackle on Shane Williams with 10 minutes remaining.
