Japan, New Zealand and South Africa have been confirmed as the candidates to host the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The three unions have submitted tender documents to Rugby World Cup Limited - who act on behalf of the International Rugby Board – and representatives will visit each country to review the bids in June and July.

A detailed report on the tenders will then be prepared for the RWCL board and the IRB council will name the winner in November this year.

RWCL chairman Dr Syd Millar commented: “Having received the last bid today from New Zealand, in addition to those already received from Japan and from South Africa, I have the pleasure to announce that we have three bids of substance, three excellent bids, and we’re very pleased.”
