South Africa Sevens coach Paul Treu has announced their 15-man squad for the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens 2005 to be played in Hong Kong from 18-20.

South Africa Sevens coach Paul Treu has announced their 15-man squad for the IRB Rugby World Cup Sevens 2005 to be played in Hong Kong from 18-20.

The squad shows three changes from the recent IRB Sevens Series tournaments in Wellington and Los Angeles.

Shandre Frolick, Derick Kuun and Wayne van Heerden are all unavailable.

Their respective replacements are Danwell Demas, Stefan Basson (both Vodacom Blue Bulls) and Kevin Foote (Golden Lions).

Frolick is a member of the national Under-19 team that will participate in the IRB Under-19 World Championships next month in Durban, Kuun is taking exams, while Van Heerden has returned to the 15-man code with Eastern Province.

Former Springbok coach Ian McIntosh will accompany the side as technical advisor, he was in charge in the last Sevens World Cup in Argentina.

Treu described the squad as well-balanced, boasting a wealth of experience and an exciting crop of emerging talented players.

“We are confident of our chances and determined to continue with our proud performances in this competition,” said Treu.

Squad: Stefan Basson, Ryno Benjamin, Danwell Demas, Kevin Foote, Eddie Fredericks, Lesley Jackson, Fabian Juries, Gareth Krause, Tobela Mdaka, Jaco Pretorius, Schalk van der Merwe, Jose van Rensburg, Marius Schoeman, Jano Vermaak.
