Scotland coach Matt Williams has been rocked by another setback with the news that forward Allister Hogg could miss the start of the RBS 6 Nations Championship through injury.

The 21-year-old Edinburgh flanker was set to undergo a scan on a knee injury in Glasgow today after he was injured in Sunday’s Heineken Cup victory over Perpignan.

Williams is already resigned to being without openside flanker Donnie Macfadyen for the opening Six Nations fixture with France in Paris.

British and Irish Lion Simon Taylor is still to return to action after the knee injury he sustained in the final match of last year’s championship.

Hogg’s Edinburgh team-mate, centre Ben MacDougall, will be out of action for six weeks after he fractured his thumb in the same match.

Williams was hoping more players might take part in today’s training session.

Yesterday, 24 players were unable to train at Murrayfield, because they were suffering from bumps and bruises from the weekend’s matches.
