'Plenty for us to work on' - Kidney

Leinster coach Declan Kidney admitted his side “still have plenty to work on” – despite affirming themselves tonight as the number one seeds for April’s Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

The Pool 2-topping Irish province ran Benetton Treviso ragged in a nine-try 57-17 Lansdowne Road triumph to guarantee themselves a last-eight date for the second time in three seasons.

Even allowing for a record 33 tries scored in their six pool games, Kidney feels his Leinster tyros are far from the finished article.

“It was a very good performance – some of the passages of play were top class, but some weren’t. And we still have plenty to work on,” said Kidney.

“At times we lacked a bit of control – we could have conceded another try or two, but we’re through and the fact that we’ve got a home quarter-final means a lot to us.

“We’ll expect a tough game because there are no easy draws,” he added.

Man-of-the-match Shane Jennings – the only uncapped Irish-born player in the Leinster XV – described his night as “great fun.”

Chalking up their bonus point inside 35 minutes, Jennings bagged two tries either side of the break with Ireland wing Shane Horgan grabbing a hat-trick - moving his tally for the campaign up to seven.

“We didn’t think we’d win by that scoreline,” said Leinster skipper Reggie Corrigan.

“The forwards got a lot of flack after the Bath game last week – so we were determined to step it up, and we did – starting with a good driving maul off the kick-off.

“Treviso put up a good challenge, but we were too well up-for-it.”

Treviso coach Craig Green praised Leinster’s attacking quality. “They were too good for us out wide and up front. They have quality players all over the park,” he said.

“It’s very difficult to defend against them. When we created chances I was quite pleased that we got in for our two tries.”
