AIL Division Two: Review
Old Belvedere maintained their lead at the top of the AIB League Division Two, thanks to a 20-8 success at Ballynahinch this afternoon.
Elsewhere UL Bohs held off Thomond to snatch an 11-10 win to remain second with victories for Bective and Dublin University ensuring an all-Dublin top four.
Out-half Aidan O’Halloran brought Thomond back into the game with a late penalty, but a steely nerve saw Ian Costello kick the visitors to a one-point win.
Three penalties from out-half Keelan McGowan rescued the points for DU at Barnhall. Just as he had done with his last minute winner against DLSP, McGowan kicked a late penalty to ensure a 9-5 for the visitors.
Sunday’s Well were edged out in the relegation tussle at Musgrave Park, losing 14-10 to Midleton.
Dave Hurley kicked the visitors into the lead on 12 minutes, before Jonathan Lynch replied and Hurley sent Midleton in at the break with a 6-3 lead, with his second penalty on 33 minutes.
Replacement flanker Garvan Lynch powered over for a Midleton try shortly after the restart, and the stretched their lead to 14-3 with a penalty from Munster centre Jason Holland, on as a second half substitute.
Another substitute, winger Sakoma Chirwa dived over in the final minutes for a converted Well score but it proved too late.
Old Crescent scored two tries as they defeated Waterpark 14-11 to move up to eighth, and Bective also enjoyed an away success as Fergal Campion kicked 13 points in a 23-12 win over Malone at Gibson Park.
DLSP claimed their seventh win in 13 outings, and repeated their 2002 14-13 defeat of Terenure, with a 24-10 win over the College side in Kilternan.
