French international Philippe Saint-Andre was lured to Manchester by the ambition of Sale owner Brian Kennedy.

The former Gloucester chief, who won 69 caps for his country from 1990-97, has signed a three-year contract to become the Sharks’ director of rugby, working alongside head coach Jim Mallinder.
