Edinburgh come out on top over Warriors
Celtic Warriors 19 Edinburgh 30
The return of the Welsh Rugby World Cup stars could not prevent a smart Edinburgh side winning an enthralling Celtic League contest at the Brewery Field.
After doing well during and before the big event down under, it was a big disappointment for the Warriors who were outplayed by the men from the Scottish capital.
Edinburgh were much quicker to the loose ball and had dangerous and pacy wingers in Simon Webster and Craig Joiner.
There was little between the sides in the set pieces but Edinburgh always seemed to win the ball when it was on the ground.
A well-worked loop by Chris Paterson after five minutes allowed Marcus Di Rollo to send Derek Lee flying over from 30 metres.
Brendan Laney kicked the conversion and added a penalty after Neil Jenkins had opened the Warriors account with a penalty.
Laney kicked another and two more from Jenkins made it 13-9 to the visitors at half-time, a scoreline which flattered the Warriors.
Webster, skipper Todd Blackadder and Scott Murray created the space for Paterson to cross for Edinburgh’s second try soon after the restart and after that, it was damage limitation for the Warriors.
Jenkins kicked his fourth penalty but Paterson dropped a goal and created a lovely second try for Lee which Laney converted.
The Warriors scored an injury time try through Sililo Martens but that was little consolation for a well-beaten home side.
