Mortlock signs new Brumbies deal
Australia centre Stirling Mortlock has signed a new three-year contract with the ACT Brumbies.
The 26-year-old, currently recovering from a shoulder reconstruction, is delighted to have tied up his immediate future with the Brumbies.
Mortlock said: “The Brumbies gave me my chance to be a professional player and I’ve really enjoyed my time here and firmly believe there is no better place to develop.
“Looking to the future, I think we’re in good shape.
“We’ve still got some of the more experienced guys around for the next year or so but perhaps more importantly we’re starting to see the emergence of the next generation.
“There are a lot of really good young players coming through, as we saw this season, and I’m really keen to be involved over the next few years.
“I guess this will also make me one of the more senior guys in the squad and I’m looking forward to the responsibility that comes with that.”
Mortlock has been capped 20 times by the Wallabies and played over 60 Super 12 matches, scoring 600 points, for the Brumbies.
Brumbies chief executive officer Rob Clarke said: “We’re absolutely delighted. Stirling is a world class player who has been a huge asset to the Brumbies and ACT Rugby for the past six years.”
The deal comes in a week that has seen the Brumbies re-sign fellow Wallabies Matt Giteau and George Smith also for the next three years.
